One Vegetable One Community (OVOC) strives to unite the community by encouraging gardeners to plant, grow, cook, and/or share a single vegetable. The aim is to see the vegetable of the year growing in kitchen gardens, community and school gardens, containers on front porches, in front of businesses, faith-based organizations, and government buildings. Through sharing growing, preparation, cooking, and storing information, OVOC starts a conversation in the community about food, nutrition and how Crow Wing County can support healthier choices.
The most recent Crow Wing County Community Health Survey found that 2 out of 3 adults in Crow Wing County (65.7%) are not eating the recommended 5 or more fruits and vegetables a day. Crow Wing Energized launched the One Vegetable One Community initiative to encourage healthy eating.
Crow Wing Energized encourages the community to increase their consumption of vegetables by distributing seed packets, sharing recipes, and promoting healthy eating.
